By Jennifer Lyn Walker, The Cybersecurity Evangelist
On episode 12 of The Cybersecurity Evangelist (TCE) podcast, I chat with a couple of Baby Boomers with varied perspectives of cybersecurity as I take TCE back to its roots – as the cybersecurity podcast for everyone. I welcome Ed Heyman (@El_Grillo1) and a mystery guest to talk about “The Great Bewilderment.” We also discuss why boomers are the generation most likely to take privacy and security seriously, especially when most think it’s scary or lack understanding and knowledge. Ed explains how this is “their” mess and what Renee Zellweger has to do with it…?
Finally, in light of cybersecurity awareness becoming a bit of a new “soft skill,” I ask them to share what bare minimum level of cyber awareness everyone should maintain – so long as we keep carrying little computers around all day. While the mystery guest has learned to question everything, Ed leaves us with a new set of primers – Ed’s Aphorisms for the Cyber Bewildered:
- When in Doubt, Don’t
- Two Factors Are Better Than 1
- Look Before You Click
- Protect Your Privacy
- If It Looks Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is
- If You Didn’t Ask For It, Don’t Use It
- If the App Was Free, You’re The Product
- You Don’t Own What’s On Your Phone
